Blended Learning combines the power of teachers with the power of technology to create a new learning environment that helps students reach their potential and achieve their academic goals. Blended Learning covers a wide scope of learning models. It offers a variety of models that schools can choose from or combine – to implement a blended learning program in classrooms. But the question here arises about, how to determine that which is the best model for their classroom.
Well, that’s not a big issue to be worried about. Read the following models of blended learning and choose the right one for your class:
- Rotation Model:
The rotation method has been implemented and executed in schools for many years but has never been pooled with online learning. Combining an online learning component in the rotation is what makes this a blended learning approach. In this model, a single class is rotated between online and other models of learning. It all depends on the teacher’s instruction how she/ he would conduct the class. Sometimes the teachers let the students choose the type of rotation for themselves so that they are fully involved and active throughout the class lecture.
Rotation model further has four types:
- Station Rotation allows the students to rotate at a fixed schedule from one station to another, may be in a classroom or set of classrooms, where atleast one of the station is online learning. This type of rotations may include, for example, individual learning using online learning programs, direct instruction of a small group with teacher, and independent working.
- Lab Rotation is likewise to station rotation in which students rotate on a fixed schedule to different classrooms or stations in a classroom. The only key difference is that when it comes to online learning portion, the students are led to the computer lab. It provides a changed environment to the students and frees up classroom space for other activities within the rotation model.
- Individual Rotation is a scheduled rotation set by the teacher catering to the individual needs of the students. Unlike other rotation models, students do not necessarily rotate to every station; they rotate only to the activities scheduled based on their needs and interests.
- Flipped Classroom model flips the traditional relationship between class time and homework. In simple words, the students do their classwork at home and homework in class. Students learn at home via online coursework and lectures, and teachers use class time for teacher-guided practice or projects. This approach is momentous because students are involved in activity-based learning rather than passive learning.
- Flex Model:
In the Flex Model, online learning acts as a backbone. It lets students move on fluid schedules among learning activities according to their needs. The students start with online learning courses along with teachers’ face-to-face instruction and guidance to enrich students’ online learning experience as needed and on a case-by-case basis. This model can give students a high degree of control over their learning.
- A La Carte Model:
A La Carte Model provides students the opportunity to choose any online course along with a traditional course involving face-to-face instructions of the teacher. In this way the students are involved in online as well as traditional form of learning. This approach is considered a blended learning model because students are engaged in a blend of both online learning and brick-and-mortar schooling.
- Enriched Virtual Model
Enriched Virtual Model differs from all of the above models because in this model of learning students complete most of the online learning courses outside the school or at home. They only pay visit to the school when they are in need to have face-to-face session with the teacher. This model doesn’t require regular attendance of the students. The students are given freedom to schedule the best time to have a face-to-face session with their teachers.
These set of Blended Learning Models provide schools and teachers a broad array of choices to make learning more interesting for students. But do not limit your classroom with one model only.
