About Institute of  Mathematical Sciences

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences –IMSc was established in the year 1962. It is one of the premier institutes which promote basic research in the disciplines of physical sciences and mathematics: Theoretical Physics, Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematics and in many other interdisciplinary fields as well. There are hundreds of researchers which include faculty members, graduate students and post- doctorate fellows are members of the institute. Additionally there are a large number of visitors from all around the world who come here. The research conducted at the institute is supported by the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India and the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. IMSc primarily operates in only three basic areas of Theoretical Physics, Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematics. IMSc has an excellent graduate research program to which only a few number of selected students are admitted and they move towards a Ph.D Degree. The institute also has an outstanding scientific library, stat-of-the-art computer facility which comprises of the fastest academic computer in India and a dedicated high-speed network.
